In a press release today on infrastructure policy, the Australian Business Council has called for true pricing of Australia’s water in a competitive market. The ABC wants a more pure market for water, created by introducing competition into the urban water retail market, setting prices that reflect the cost of supply, and allowing national water trading…including rural-urban trading. In a drive to create a reliable supply of rural irrigation water, they also suggest buying back over-allocations of water and a real-time water accounting system as well as pricing access to irrigation infrastructure at its true cost.
